Jason sits in the middle of the bed, flipping though a book, not really reading just skimming. He can hear the others watching a movie, laughing at the predictable plotline. Ella's shrieks reach him occasionally, telling him that someone is playing with the girl. Dinner had gone over well, and no one had died yet, so apparently he'd done a good job.

Now he was sitting there, moping for some reason he couldn't figure out. Wanting to be alone, but not really.

The tap on the door is light, almost as if trying not to be heard.

Sighs and looks up at the door, frowning when he realises who's there.

"Come in."

Pushing the door open a little, peering inside but not crossing the threshold.

"If you'd rather I come back, or just got away and let you be, I can."

Shakes his head, tossing the book on the floor.

"No, what did you need?"

Smiling a little, slipping into the room and closing the door behind her.

"I just... I don't know. Didn't feel like watching the movie. And didn't feel like getting odd looks from Zane. He just got back and he's all pissy and... '

Flopping down at the foot of the bed.

'You people are starting to think really loud."

"And what? I'm an ass that needs to mind his own business?"

Shakes his head, smiling.

"Sorry 'bout that."

"I'm sorry!'

The words blurted out soon as he snapped at her, ducking her head as she suddenly slid backwards from the bed. Coughing, trying to hide a small whimper, to hide the sudden tears.

"I didn't mean to bother you, Jason. Just thought... I don't know what I was thinking. I'll go back to my room. Sorry.'

"Em?"

Just that one word, her name. Spoken quietly, holding his hand out to her.

Looking up, a complete deer in the headlights look. And then seeming to cave in, her fingers shaking as they wrapped around his, slinking up onto the bed once more. Curling up near him.

"Never think that of you, Jason. Your voice? In my head? Calms me. Even when you're upset. Or when you and Gabe are....' Blushing, ducking her head once more.

"I meant Zane, not you. And that's very... yeah, we need to have someone work with you on those shields."

Sighs, pulling her close for a hug.

"It's because of Jase, right? That's why you're so calm around me?"

Snuggling close to his side, smiling slightly.

"Well, Jase makes me calm too. No, not really. He makes me really excited but.. Okay, you know what I mean. But yes, you do because of that. But it's not just that!'

Added quickly, looking up at him sharply. "It's not just me you do it for. You do it for Gabe. And Jase. And Leela. And.. everyone. Even Ella. Gabe might be your.. alpha? But you are what holds them together Jason. And I don't think they realize that."

Chuckles, then shakes his head, frowning.

"Yeah, when I'm not making them hate me or pushing them to the point they turn homicidal on me."

"He hates himself, Jason. And he's scared. And he loves you so much that... It makes me almost love you. If that makes sense. It's so strong, so there! That it's hard for someone like me to ignore.'

Snuggling closer, resting her head in his lap.

"And you're loud voice isn't bad. It's Gabe's fear. And Zane.'

Growling, looking almost angry.

"I am taking three showers a day. I don't know what else he wants me to do.'

Since the door's closed, Scud takes the precaution of knocking before entering, although he doesn't actually wait very long and didn't exactly wait for permission to enter. He's like that sometimes.

He'd been laying there staring at the ceiling since Em left and waves to Scud.

"Hey."

"Hey." Scud meanders in and plops down on the bed uninvited. And doesn't really say anything. Presumably this is his way of checking, like Gabriel, that things are okay.

Jason rolls to his side and cuddles up against Scud, closing his eyes.

"They're noisy out there, can't sleep."

Scud turns a little on his side too, reaching over and putting his hand over Jason's ear.

"They're really exciteable, kinda like takin' kids to the zoo."

Laughs, imaging that bunch at the zoo. Sticks his tongue out at Scud, not opening his eyes.

"That was a very scary image. They'd eat the penguins."

"They'd eat anythin', if tonight was any indication." Scud teases, poking for and missing Jason's stuck out tongue.

"Hey, that was damn good for my first attempt." He grabs Scud's hand and bites the offending finger, letting go with a grin.

"Yep, we'll eat anything."

Scud mock gasps and shakes his hand before sticking out his bottom lip. "Savages, all of ya. Specially you and Gabe."

He's trying very hard not to laugh.

Laughs, shrugging. "Sometimes one must act like a native in order to survive."
