Meeting

Six thirty. Three black bags sit on the table, along with two stacks of paperwork. The others should be showing up shortly for the meeting he had called, but he wasn't worried. He was busy feeding Ella, which was always entertaining.

"No, Ella, the fat rodents don't need you to feed them." He pulls her hand away from the gliders' cage, tossing the food in her hand in the sink.

Zane's hand lightly takes Em's. Not a word spoken, merely looking at the girl. Her sigh is soft, shaking her head. Zane merely whispered one word.

"Please."

Shoulders slumping, Em looked to Jason.

"He says he's taking care of it. He doesn't want to bother you guys. And he's sorry for not answering but the pain's really bad right now and he's afraid if he opens his mouth, he'... Stop it Zane!' Yanking her hand away as he obviously squeezed down to stop her.

"Shhh, Zane."

Turning his head, kissing Zane's shoulder as he reaches for Em's hand.

~Em, baby, are you okay?~

Pulling her hand up, kissing it as his other hand slips under Zane's hoodie, fingers brushing along the leopard's skin.

Nodding to Jase, but there are tears in her eyes.

~Just hurt. That's all. I'm okay.~

Looking back up at Jason, almost defiant. But not at the wolf.

"He's scared. Of Gabriel and of Elizabeth?" Saying the name softly, unsure. "And he's worried that Gabriel will kick him out for craving it again."

Walks over and tugs at one of Zane's spikes, then leans down, whispering in his ear.

"She's dead. And you and Gabe need to talk about this. Soon."

Sits on the arm of the couch, watching them.

He winces at the pain, yanking away.

"Don't! And she's not. I was there. I couldn't k... Sh'es....'

Hope shining so bright in his eyes.

"Really?"

Nods, still playing with Zane's hair.

"Part of the blood district went boom. Person went back to check afterwards, she and several key others are dead."

Looks at Zane, concerned.

"Told you we'd keep you safe. As for the other, tell him. He'll understand. More than you know."

Zane turned, burying himself against Em as if he were trying to burrow through her to Jase as well.

"Shhhh, baby it's okay." Murmuring it softly, stroking the boy's shoulder as she glances at Jason.

Sighs and goes to pick up Ella, getting ready to put her to bed.

"He needs to do it, Blondie. He's never going to get over his fear of Gabe if he doesn't talk to him. And you have an hour before you need to be home."

Turns and heads for the girl's bedroom.
