Rock a bye, baby...

Jason had been right. Gabe's family wasn't really prepared for the early delivery, but that fact that he had been willing to stick around and set things up had helped smooth things over. Of course, the cash he had left helped too. Like he had told Leela, they were really good people. The couple had started bonding to the girl almost instantly and he left behind a happy family when he was finally able to get away.
Afterwards, he didn't go right home. He ended up in Vegas, the one that seemed to be irrevocably attached to the Nexus. Wandering down the strip, he wondered if Greg was working tonight and if he had ever made it out of lab. It was only after he'd realised that he had passed most of the major hotspots that he decided he wasn't in the mood for the bright lights and headed down a side street.
A couple of blocks later, he found it. Not a total dive, but enough of one that he would be left alone. Ducking inside, he headed for a corner table in the back and sprawled on the bench seat. Flagging down the waitress, he ordered a beer and told her to keep them coming, sliding a few hundreds on the table, knowing she would bring him the expensive stuff.
After being left alone, Jason sits back and sips at the beer. He should probably head back, but Gabe and Ella were in safe hands. Hell, people at the house were use to him disappearing by now. He just needed time to think. About the fact that Raina was dead again and that Rhoswyn was here.
And yes, that was the name he'd told the family. Living in the Nexus, one didn't always forget things when events changed. Sometimes little memories lingered. He wasn't sure why, he just knew that she had to be named Rhoswyn.
He had understood where Gabe was coming from, even agreed with him. Rhoswyn wouldn't be given a fair chance at the house. Far too many people there had been hurt by Raina to be able to see that part of her blood. It would always be held against her. At least this way, she would have the life she deserved.
But that didn't stop him from wishing things had been different or wondering just who she belonged to, him or Gabe. If it had been up to just him, he would have kept her, but it wasn't. Compromises had to be made.
Maybe one day things would be different. For now, he was gonna hang out here and deal. He'd find his way later.
