He'd ended up going home really late last night, or very early this morning depending on how you looked at it. It was only after stopping to think about it did he realise that being slightly drunk and sixty feet up in the air might not be a good idea.

Once home though, going to bed really wasn't on the top of his list. Instead, he went and curled up on one of the huge leather couches in the theater room and turned on a movie at random. And that was where he woke up the next day. And a check of his watch told him it was just about noon.

After crawling from the couch and cleaning up, Jason made lunch for him and Ella then spent the afternoon spoiling the girl. First it was ice cream with lunch, then going shopping for new toys and clothes, ending with a trip to the baby gym so she could run around and play. Once home, it was dinner, bath and bed for the girl, Jason collapsing on the couch afterwards.

He didn't plan on moving for bit.

Kissing back, wincing at that question. Eyes closed, he rests his forehead against Jason's. "I barely told them about you. They don't even know about the pard, in detail. How do I.. I dont know."

"Don't worry about it then." Threading his fingers through Gabe's hair, kissing his temple. "You can tell them whenever you're ready."

"What do I do if they want to be real grandparents to her? How do I explain all of it? They know bits but..." Confusion in his tones, eyes closed.

"Let them? Do you not realise what a good thing it is for her to have grandparents? They'll willingly take her for two or more weeks and spoil her rotten." He's trying to make light of the situation, smiling a bit.

"As for what to tell them... the truth minus the Nexus element?"

"Jason, they accpeted I was infected. But they never knew the rest. About Raina and Elizabeth and what I did. Now I should show them this group of monsters and shifters we live with, some of whom Ella calls Mommy or Da and have them understand?"

"So, skip over that part. You left the group in St Louis because things weren't good. Now you have a group that's happy together, healing mentally and emotionally. And they dote on your daughter and would do anything for her."

He pauses, then shrugs. "We just keep Zane the younger away from them for a while. A very long while."

"Forever. He would tell them everything. Give them video and..."

He growls. "Why can't I just give him a few million and kick him out?"

"You can try it. I offered to do it, but he wouldn't because the other three feel safe here."

He sighs, lightly scratching the back of Gabe's neck. "Besides, if he did that, it would hurt Ella. I don't think he would do that."

Purring as that scritching begins, eyes closing as he snuggles in close to his mate. "I just... He's not happy here yet he stays. I can't understand that."

"He stays here for them. They're happy, so he'll shove it down and stay for them."

Smiling, he kisses Gabe softly. "I wonder where he picked that up, because he sounds like someone else I know."

Kissing back, Gabe gives Jason a strange look. "Yeah, but I don't screw people over and almost get them killed. Or risk their kids."

"I'm putting that down to teenage hormones and hotheadedness. He is still seventeen, seventeen is the stupid age."

"He sold out his alpha, Jason. To a powerful wizard. He knew what he was doing.' HIs purr giving way to a growl.

"I know this. I also know that everyone else has forgiven and moved on, but he doesn't know how. So he'll say he's fine and bury shit until something sets him off. He's got a helluva lot of anger and he's lashing out at you because he doesn't know how to do anything else."

He shrugs and looks down, still scritching Gabe. "I've talked to Betsy about it."

He sighs, the sound morphing into a purr. "I know this. But... I just don't know. He risks my family. He risks so much. I can't make him happy, there's nothing I can do to fix it and it's like... I know I have to pay for what I did to him but my family shouldn't have to also."

Jason loves that sound, said it many times, so he keeps doing what he's doing. "Anger makes us do stupid things. I know I've done it, been angry and done something that I've looked back on later and asked myself what I thought I was doing."

He leans in closer, wrapping his arms as snuggly about Jason as he can without feeling he might be hurting him. "Do you feel angry about the child? About taking her away?"

Jason is quiet for a moment then shakes his head. "No. I worry that she may end up hating us for not keeping her, but it's the best thing for her."

"Maybe she should? It's better than her asking questions. How do you tell a child they, in the end, they're a product of hate and rape? How do you tell her that her mother despised her and that her very conception nearly killed one of us and did kill the other?"

"You don't. I don't think she should ever know what happened. And if she finds out, we just remind her that we took care of her, found her a good home who had no idea where she came from."

"That's my point.' Sighing, stroking Jason's hair. "If she grew up here? Eventually she would learn. If only because it would come up. Some mention of Raina and everyone would flinch around her."

"I know. It's why I agreed with you." Turning his head, nuzzling at Gabe's hand. Trying to smile, he nips at the pad of Gabe's thumb.

"You and Scud better?"

"I think so.' Purring once more at the nip, tapping Jason on the nose. "Just have to keep it like this. Might see him tomorrow, make him get that running back and hiding isn't going to be met well."

"Good, I like you happy." Grabbing Gabe's hand, he licks the offending finger. "Hmm, I should run and hide, just to see what happens."

Shivering, eyes narrowing. "I didn't know your idea of fun still ran to be driven into the ground with a knife in your back."
